PROJECTS

IN SITU Italy

“IN SITU Italy”, a cultural consortium for art in public space formed by Italian realities: ZONA K in Milan, Indisciplinarte in Terni in collaboration with BASE Milano and Sardegna Teatro di Cagliari.

The world of Italian and European culture does not stop working and looking to the future with confidence.

This is the direction taken by the choice of Italian artistic realities to form a consortium to travel together along the road of artistic creation in public space. ZONA K from Milan, Indisciplinarte from Terni in collaboration with BASE Milan and Sardegna Teatro from Cagliari have formally created “In-Situ Italia”, the cultural consortium that brings together the Italian partners of “In-Situ”, the European platform for artistic creation in public space.
The Italian consortium, initially enriched by the presence of Pergine Festival, was created in response to the application for the (Un)Common Spaces 2020-2024 project, co-funded by the European Union’s Creative Europe programme to disseminate and consolidate the network’s action at national level.

The Italian organisations have chosen to formalise the historic synergy between organisations with many years of experience in the field of artistic research for public space. The establishment of “In-Situ Italia” gives a European horizon to this collaboration, widening the scope of the actions undertaken, with a view to cross-fertilising networks to share skills and best practices.

The aim is to develop and support projects that are able to establish a dialogue with cities and their inhabitants, enhancing the public sphere and temporarily transforming places and relationships. The newly formed Italian network supports formats and participatory projects that involve communities, performances and installations adapted to the urban space and contaminated by languages.

Alongside the associated artists, “citizens”, professionals and researchers have also been selected to accompany the network’s work over the next few years. The consortium selected Alessia Zabatino, policymaker, activist, member of the Forum Inequalities and Diversity with a PhD in territorial planning.

THE ITALIAN PARTNERS
ZONA K, based in Milan, is a cultural space dedicated to the exchange between artistic and cultural disciplines. The work of ZONA K opens its gaze to the world, hosting some of Europe’s avant-garde performance artists engaged in a theatre that looks to the present, that involves the audience in different forms and measures, that uses technological devices for new forms of artistic fruition, that inhabits unconventional places.

The Teatro di Sardegna, recognised by the Mibact in 2015 as a “Theatre of Significant Cultural Interest” with the Sardegna Teatro project, is a cultural centre at the heart of the Mediterranean, managing a plurality of spaces, entering specific contexts thanks to different artistic languages. Its action as a performance-producing body is enriched by the encounter with the communities of the territories it inhabits, through long-term site-specific actions, activating complex and non-peaceful processes. In the last 6 years it has hosted and co-produced artists from the IN SITU network, including Leonardo Delogu, Strasse, Zimmerfrei, creating a participatory mode, capable of finding new narratives and new visions on places and people.

Indisciplinarte is a creative group that since 2007 has been working on curating, European planning and territorial cultural development, working in continuous interaction with a consolidated network of national and international relations. The activities it produces are very diversified (from artistic residencies to curatorial programmes) and all linked by a single underlying principle, according to which the strategic role of culture and art is to generate social change. Indisciplinarte is based in Terni, Umbria, and for the network it collaborates with BASE Milan through the artistic direction of Linda Di Pietro.
